FAQ
HOW DO I CARE FOR STAINED GLASS?
Metals and finishes in stained glass naturally oxidize over time. For smaller pieces with more solder, I wax them to slow this process. For larger pieces like windows and door panels, I use black polish to maintain their finish. To clean smaller pieces, use a soft cloth to gently rub off any oxidized areas, then apply a light coat of car wax. For larger pieces, use a soft cloth to clean and then apply black polish. Once it has dried to a haze, buff off the wax or polish to restore the original shine. Avoid cleaning with water, as it can negatively affect the metal finishes.
HOW LONG DOES A CUSTOM ORDER TAKE?
The timeline for custom orders depends on the size and complexity of the project. For smaller pieces, it typically takes 2-3 weeks, while larger installations like window or door panels can take 4-6 weeks. I will provide a more accurate timeframe once we discuss your specific project.
HANGING GLASS
It is strongly recommended to hang pieces with hooks, nails, or screws. Use suction cups for hanging at your own risk, as even with proper cleaning they can loosen and fall.
DO I NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE LEAD IN SOLDER?
Stained glass is safe to handle, as lead can only enter the body through inhalation or ingestion. As a precaution, I recommend washing hands after handling and keeping stained glass out of reach of children and pets.
DO YOU TAKE CUSTOM ORDERS?
Yes, my custom orders are OPEN. Whether you are looking for a smaller piece like a pet portrait or a large-scale window panel, feel free to contact me about your custom project, and I will respond within 1-3 working days.
SHIPPING INFO
All smaller items are carefully packaged and shipped via UPS with tracking. I use as much recycled shipping material as possible to reduce environmental impact.
DO YOU OFFER GIFT VOUCHERS?
Yes, I offer gift vouchers that can be used toward any of my custom stained glass pieces or services. They make a great gift for birthdays, weddings, or housewarmings, allowing the recipient to commission a personalised piece that they'll treasure for years to come.
RESTORATIONS
Many older homes feature beautiful stained glass that may be worn or damaged over time. Whether it’s a small onsite repair or a full restoration, I can help bring your stained glass back to life, preserving its beauty and character for future generations.
SECURITY GLAZING
For added security and insulation, I offer additional layers of glass to protect your stained glass panels. This can enhance the stability, thermal efficiency, and acoustics of your windows and doors. I provide options like laminated glass for security or museum-grade glass for an ultra-low reflection finish that maintains curb appeal.
DOUBLE GLAZING
I also offer double-glazed solutions for added insulation and noise reduction. These can be tailored to your specific needs while maintaining the aesthetic of your stained glass.
EXTRACTION & INSTALLATION
I work with skilled professionals to ensure the safe extraction and installation of your stained glass panels. If any carpentry is required during the process, we’ll take care of it. For older panels being restored, I provide secure boarding to give you peace of mind while the work is being completed.
CAN YOU MAKE REPRODUCTIONS OF EXISTING PIECES?
For restorations, if the original panel cannot be saved, I can create an exact replica to preserve the design and integrity of the original piece. However, for new custom work, I do not directly copy other artists' designs but can create something inspired by existing pieces with your own unique touches.
HOW DO I CHOOSE A DESIGN FOR A CUSTOM STAINED GLASS PIECE?
I work closely with clients to develop designs that fit their style and needs. You can provide inspiration such as colours, themes, or architectural details from your space, and I will guide you through the process of creating a design that reflects your vision. For larger projects, I also offer design consultations to help you find the perfect fit.
CAN YOU REPAIR STAINED GLASS THAT SOMEONE ELSE MADE?
Yes, I offer repair and restoration services for stained glass panels, whether I originally created them or they were made by another artist. I will assess the condition and provide a repair plan to restore the piece to its original beauty.
